Xtend + JoyRide Instructor Profile: Audrey Slater-Spiegel

Next up in our instructor profile series, Audrey Slater-Spiegel. New to JoyRide, Audrey brings her high octane energy and dance and fitness experience to the barre in Westport’s Studio 2, starting next week!

Where do you live?
My family and I moved to Madison, Connecticut three years ago, from Brooklyn. As a true New Yorker, I try to get my city fix once a week.

Do you have any children?
I have a 12 year old daughter Claire, in middle school, and 3 year old Frenchie “dogter,” Isabelle at home!

Are you a current JoyRider?
I am new to JoyRide, but I’m so excited to join the community, teach Xtend classes and try all the fitness experiences that JoyRide & JoyX have to offer!

What’s your background?
I found my way into fitness through my former career as a fashion editor. As the fashion director at Redbook and Shape magazines, I had the good fortune to work with (and work out with) many talented and innovative New York and LA fitness pros. Exercise, particularly dance-based fitness, became a passion. So, when we decided to move from New York to Madison, teaching what I love was a natural part of the transition.

Does your background lend itself to barre?
Eleven years ago, after I had my daughter, it was time to become serious about getting my health, strength and wellness back. Barre classes were the first stop on that journey. Instantly, I saw results: increased energy, stamina, confidence, and a strong and lean body to be proud of. I continue to be willing to work hard for the gift of those results, and I can’t wait to share that gift with the JoyRide community.

What do you like to do when you aren’t teaching fitness classes?
Fashion is in my DNA, so when I’m not immersed in teaching and creating my classes, I’m curating my wardrobe, making outfits, and keeping up on the fashion world gossip. To this day, friends still count on me to style them and help them shop!

What's your favorite indulgence?
Its super-important to put healthful, whole, clean foods into your body regularly. But for me, life without the occasional fresh-baked baguette, beautiful cheese and glass of wine just isn’t worth living!

Do you have a favorite travel destination?
Travel to new places is deeply important to me, but my favorite trip is our annual family holiday on Block Island.

Summer or winter?
I am a total beach bum that dreads winter. Summer should be 6 months longer. Someone needs to get on that ASAP!

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee all the way! I make my own version of “Bulletproof Coffee," with a pat of grass fed butter and a splash of almond milk.

Do you have any words to live by?
I sure do! “This too shall change."
