Faces of Joy: Problem Solver, Alex McGonigle

Got a Problem? She can Solve it! JoyRide’s Resident Bike Expert & Super Hero

“They’re just nuts and bolts, Alex” is what her engineer and mechanic mentor used to say to her as she learned his trade while growing up in Darby, England.

You may have seen a striking, blonde, very focused woman in JoyGear, who often seems to be on a mission in our studios. No, she is not an instructor (but could be!) and yes, she is always on a mission. Alex McGonigle is JoyRide’s Facilities Manager and Bike Mechanic. With a background in engineering, she moved to the States in 2011 and ran a go-kart track at an upstate New York camp. Although she was quickly promoted, she decided to settle down full-time in Connecticut, where she found JOY!

This unique, no-nonsense woman is a former mechanic who studied the arts — and she is vital to the functioning of our four Connecticut studios. With 40+ 60-pound indoor cycling bikes in Westport, Ridgefield, Wilton and Darien, Alex is charged with servicing, maintaining and repairing each of them, as well as overseeing the organization, supplies (hello, hundreds of towels!), sound systems and operations for each studio.

Part “MacGyver," part artist, this beauty is also a fitness buff who spins, has run six half marathons + one full marathon and just hiked the Grand Canyon! She also owns and runs Creative Cakes by Alex.

Says Co-Founder & CEO Amy Hochhauser: “When there’s an issue, we always say ‘get Alex, our British Superhero.' There’s almost nothing she can’t do.” Adds Co-Founder and Creative Director, Rhodie Lorenz: “We struck 'indoor cycling and operations gold' when we found Alex! And she’s pretty fun, too!"

After eight years of living in the U.S., Alex is engaged — and we know her wedding cake will be pretty darn good!
